Museums in Tokyo

Tokyo has an enormous number of quality museums.  You can find some of them here on Tokyo in

Tokyo has a lot of history and a lot of museums to show it.  Here you’ll find a lot of the traditional type of museum such as history, art, architecture and photography but you will also find some that are a little unexpected such as the Meguro Parasitical Museum or the Banknote and Postage Museum.  I’m fairly confidant in saying that Tokyo has something for everyone.

One thing you need to be aware of is that the overwhelming of museums in Tokyo close on Mondays, so avoid that day for visits if possible.  Of course, there are a few exceptions, but they are fairly rare so always check websites before going to avoid problems.

The other thing to you need to know about museums in Tokyo is that being in Japan, most of the displays are explained in Japanese first and then most of them will have translations in English.  The problem of course is the level of the translations.  A few of them are excellent, but many of them provide only the basic information and some are of questionable quality, by that I mean the grammar or vocabulary might be quite poor and obviously wasn’t checked.  I wouldn’t let that hold you back from visiting any museum in Tokyo though, as some of the exhibits here are incredibly good.

Whatever museum you visit though, I’m sure you’ll find something that will grab your interest.  Here is the full list of museums that you can read about on Tokyo in Pics.  Click a picture to go to the full articles!
