Asagaya Animation Street

In the world of Japanese anime and manga , Akihabara has held the crown for a very long time. One attempt to change that was the establishment of Asagaya Anime Street in Suginami ward. The plan was to create a place where creators and fans could come together to interact and inspire future works. However, according to certain sources the high rent, combined with a lack of support from certain groups and restrictions about the types of material which could be displayed in the street caused the project to putter out of energy rather quickly. The last shop closed in January 2019, only five years after the lease was initially started. All that is left now are empty shops and shadows.
