A change of Emperors

The day has finally come. Emperor Akihito has abdicated and his son, Naruhito, has assumed the role of being Japan’s symbolic leader. I think all of us are very interested in how he will leader the family. Will there be any big changes to the monarchy? Only time will tell.

This picture was taken on December 23, 2019 the final appearance of then-Emperor, Akihito for his birthday at Chowaden Hall. On his last time at the window, instead of the family just filing out after he finished his speech as usual, the family came close together to give the crowd a great photo opportunity which was greeted by a huge roar of approval. In all my times at the palace I have never seen the family do such a thing. It was a very nice gesture.
