Tokyo in Pics

Blog

A photography blog about Tokyo, run by Australian photographer Rohan Gillett

One reason why I like long exposure photography is because ...

they can make even the most boring of places look interesting, if there is some movement in the area. In this picture we have Kanpachi-dori (Kanpachi Road) just outside Takaido Station in Tokyo’s Suginami ward. It’s just your typical local area in Tokyo, nothing special at all. At night there is nothing much to do so most people go straight home, leaving the footpaths mostly empty. That leaves only the cars on the road and the occasional train to pass. So, if you put a camera on a tripod and leave the shutter open for some length of time, you can bring the scene to life with a light display.
