Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2017 Opening Ceremony

Today saw me attend the opening ceremony of the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2017.  For those of you like me, who don’t know anything about short movies they are anywhere between one minute and thirty minutes.  However, for this competition, the limit is twenty-five minutes and the movies are from all over the world, not just Japan.  If you in Tokyo and are also into short movies this is one event you.

Tetsuya Bessho (left) and LiLiCo (right) hosted the Short Shorts Film Festival's opening ceremony

This year is the 19th time the event has been held.  Today’s ceremony was presided over by popular TV personality LiLico, the event’s ambassador, and Tetsuya Bessho, who is president of the festival.  They oversaw the awarding of several prizes which included Shibuya Diversity Award, the Tourism Picture Grand Prize and International Tourism Video Grand Prize as well as several others.  There were also appearance by HIRO from EXILE and Dream Ami (from E-Girls).

Miyuki Torii made her appearance, in costume, on a bicycle

I think the highlight of today was the appearance of Japanese comedienne Miyuki Torii on a bicycle dressed as Yuki-onna (a spirit-like snow woman).  She is always good for a laugh and she didn’t disappoint with her high-speed entrance.

The Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2017 runs until June 25 and I hope you enjoy some of the pictures I took.  From what I saw today the quality of films seems to be amazing and I think anyone who does go will be very pleasant surprised.  You can see the event’s website here for further information.
